Internet Explorer 3.0 is a web browser developed by Microsoft Inc, available for download in full install version for Windows platforms from legacy sources. This version of Internet Explorer was officially released on 1996-08-13 for public access and a brief summary of important updates and change log pertaining to this edition can be read below.

Released in two phases for Windows and Mac platforms respectively, Internet explorer 3.0 provided serious competition to the then market leader Netscape Navigator and Microsoft could capture as high as 30% of browser market share with this release. 

Infact Microsoft did not use the source code of Spyglass for this release, however the technology of Spyglass was still used in developing the IE 3.0 version. 

IE 3.0 is the first browser to support many technologies including Cascading Style Sheets, ActiveX Controls, Java Applets and in-line Multimedia. In the subsequent releases this browser was integrated with Windows Media Player and Microsoft NetMeeting.
