Internet Explorer 4.0 is a web browser developed by Microsoft Inc, available for download in full install version for Windows platforms from legacy sources. Building of Internet Explorer 4.0 is a major shift for Microsoft as it has dropped Mosaic Layout engine and introduced its proprietary layout engine Trident for further browser developments.  With this edition Microsoft captured 60% browser market share marking the beginning of end of Netscape.

Many applications were bundled into IE 4.0 including Microsoft Chat, Outlook Express, Netmeeting, Front Page Express,and RealPlayer. Outlook express replaced the MicroSoft's earlier mail application Internet Mail and now emails can be sent in HTML instead of plain text. Now multi point video conferencing is made possible with Netmeeting which is VoIP application.
